4 Day Weekend - Ahhhh

Well September - The worse month for any financial person, like me, is finally over. For us here in the desert of So California, it also means summer is over & fall starts in with cooler weather & a big weekend of rain & thunder storms. Also means my British Parachuting friends from Royal Air Force are here falling out of the sky.
But today, I start my 4 Day Holiday Weekend. Thank Goodness for Columbus!!! Sure wish this was where I was going to be read my new good book - Love Finds You in Silver City, Idaho -by Janelle Mowery,
But instead in just a few minutes I will be Skype-ing with my 3 1/2 year old British nephew from Lincoln, England- Zachary Dick who will just be getting home from his day at pre-school. Then sew a little on Christmas gifts. Pack a few things for tommorrow's trip to San Diego for the annual ASG meeting & potluck. Will also pack my Joann's coupons so Tammy & I can stop & shop. Will also drop off 6 blankets I made & other goodies at Grandma Alison's for her to take on her trip up to my niece Jennifer's for her new baby boy who is scheduled to arrive Nov 10th in Reno.
Well I know the rest of the weekend will be just as busy. So yake care and leave me a message so that I know someone even reads this. I will try to do better now on keeping it up. Have a great one !

Sun- Blessed Yesterday @ Beth Moore Simocast

Beth Moore

WELL IT WAS FABULOUS!!!
She taught to over 30 denominations, 126,000 people, 20 churchs in Canada, 5 Army Bases as we as over 39 sites in the USA on Prov 31:26 - .
She opens her mouth in wisdom,
And the law of kindness is on her tongue.
Was great teaching, had an 1 hr simocast delay (technical difficulties),
but we made it through all 8 points on the subject - Law of Kindness !!!
1) Kindness is not Weakness
2) Kindness is not an action, It Is a Disposition
3) Kindness wears down when We do
4) Kindness looks Pain in the face
5) Kindness is a Savior
6) Kindness has Good Memory
7) Kindness Craves an Outlet
8) Kindness leaves a Legacy
The greek for Kind is ~chrestos~ profitable, fit, good for any use, useful toward others, good natured.

Also blessed to sew old friends & reconnected & had a great lunch. Sooooo glad I went.
♥ u Beth Moore!!!

Good News about Baby Gwen

Her Mom Karen posted:

Baby Gwen had her post-hospitalization appointment with the Nephrology doctors and -

She's Healthy !!

Normal numbers everywhere in her bloodwork! Yay! At this point, they say she has no residual damage to her kidneys, too. :) And she has to only take one dose of high blood pressure medicine each day. We are to go back in one month and re-do labs to keep check on the kidney function and blood count numbers and re-examine the blood pressure medication. They want to follow her for one year and make sure nothing comes up.

So, as far as we're concerned, God has touched her and healed her little body. We are so blessed!!!. If you prayed for Baby Gwen, please take a moment and thank God for healing her. And thank you for praying for her and for us during her illness.

Baby Miles Jai arrives EARLY !!

Please PRAY!!
Received phone call today that a financial co-worker of mine at COMTRAWING 2 in Kingville, Texas had an emergency C section today & gave birth to a darling 3 lb 1 oz boy - Miles Jai. Miles wasn't due until mid Nov ( 3 1/2 mo early)
Mom Rosie & Baby Miles are both doing ok. But Sep is the worst month for Mom to be gone from work as a financial analyst. I know she will be worrying about both work & Baby Miles. Pray for peace and good health for all. Miles has a Daddy & baby sister who are excited for him to come home!!!

Sun-8-15-10 "BABY GWEN" GOES HOME !

Yippee!! PRAISE THE LORD !
Update from her Mom Karen -
Baby Gwen was discharged today and we are at home! Baby Gwen is now getting used to having little people in her face instead of big people in yellow gowns with blue hands.
Her kidney function is still a little below normal; her blood count was continuing to fall a little; and she's still on high blood pressure medication. That's all that's wrong with her. But, they sent her home because she's acting better; no longer needs the dialysis; is acting interested in food; and is nursing well. The hope is that she will continue to get better - completely well - here at home. She will be getting labs drawn this week and seeing the Hershey, Penn doctors next week; with some visits in the weeks and months ahead.
Thank you all very much for your prayers and help and support through these past two weeks. God has answered prayer - the nurses are just amazed that Baby Gwen is able to come home after only two weeks of hospital care. One patient this summer (they've had 5 so far this summer with HUS) is awaiting a kidney transplant; 1 is still on dialysis; 1 went home with a feeding tube; the average stay in the hospital 4 - 6 weeks. And when we remember how awful Baby Gwen felt two weeks ago - and how awful she looked - oh, my! What a change for the better. We have been very blessed!
Baby Gwen has picked up where she left off as far as developmental milestones are concerned. She's been standing up in the crib at the hospital and trying to let go of the crib rails; she learned to wave good-bye in the hospital; and she is crawling again, now that we're home. She's also throwing temper tantrums. Yay. (NOT).
So, please continue to remember us in your prayers while we get used to being together as a family and as Baby Gwen continues to heal. And again, thank you so much for the prayers and other means of support you've given us.
We deeply appreciate all of you! Mom Karen

Fri 7-13-10 "Baby GWEN" - Prayer Needed

OK, fellow Prayer Warrior - We are in need of some "KNEE Time" for a precious 11 month old who is the youngest daughter of Karen (mennonite sewer from Penn) a fellow blogger at Naptime Seamstress -http://naptimeseamstress.blogspot.com/

Her precious baby Gwen picked up an e-coli infection which moved into a kidney disorder-pancreatitis/HUS. So here is a pic of precious 11 mo old Baby Gwen & the lastest of several postings, (this is rather long so as to get you caught up to date)

8/5/10

"Baby Gwen" is in pain! She now has a condition called pancreatitis, which is some sort of irritation of the pancreas. Because there is no medicine for this, the treatment is no food or water by mouth. The pancreatitis is also very, very painful. She literally screamed in pain for four hours last night - and that was after two doses of morphine, one dose of tylenol, and four doses of another strong pain killer. That gives you an idea of how painful this is.Currently, treating her is a very complicated issue. The HUS (causing the kidneys to not function properly) requires her to not have fluids. The pancreatitis requires her to not have food, thereby requiring fluids for her nutrition. The lasicks (spelling??) is the drug of choice for supporting the kidneys, but irritates the pancreatitis. Most pain medication would be filtered by the kidneys, but hers aren't working properly, so that limits the pain medicine choices. So you see the rock and the hard place. Please pray that the Lord would relieve her of this pain. It is so hard, so very hard to watch her be in such pain. The nurses and doctors are doing what they can, but as a mom, it is so hard to believe that they're doing all they can. And yet, I'm sure they are - after all, it's their job and they're certainly well-educated. So, pray for us too. Karen's husband Stephen relieved me and stayed last night with Baby Gwen at the hospital so that I could come home and be with our other girls - O, H, and C. (the first I've seen them in 5 days!) So, pray also that we can continue to meet all our daughters' need for parents while giving Baby Gwen our attention and energy.Thank you! Mom Karen

8/9/10
Thank you, Gina (Home Joy blog), for asking for prayer for "Baby Gwen". So many of your readers hopped over and left me such encouraging comments - Thanks to all of you, too.
Baby Gwen's kidney function is making the "King of Nephrology" happy - not dancing in the streets happy, but not mad - that is a good thing. He thinks she will need more blood, so that's evidence that not all things are looking up. But, we're encouraged at the number of wet diapers she's having. So, no dialysis today, but maybe tomorrow.
Baby Gwen's pancreas problem is getting worse, so they're ordering an ultrasound, more bloodwork, and the potential insertion of an NG (nasal gastric) feeding tube.
Also, her potassium is very low, so they're monkeying with the IV nutrition bags.
She's been acting a bit more like herself - a wee bit fussy at the nurses, but not bad; pulling on the different wires; and trying to sit up (she falls over right away, because she's so weak, but she's trying).
Thank you all for your prayers - it's trying, but we certainly do feel God's Hand moving in all of this - from the nurses and roommates we get, the other parents we've met, how the doctors are testing and treating - all of it has been passed through God's Hands first and we're resting in that thought. Mom Karen

8/12/10
Yippee!!! An email of almost all good news - lots of prayers answered! Baby Gwen needed NO dialysis Sunday or Monday and on Tuesday they removed the dialysis catheter and put in an NJ feeding tube (goes through the nose and bypasses the stomach, going right to the intestines).
Her blood counts stayed level two days in a row (after her fourth transfusion), so no transfusion today; tomorrow is to be decided after they see the numbers from today. The ultrasound of her gall bladder, liver, pancreas were normal.
Her lipase numbers (the elevated number showing the pancreatitis) had been off the charts (4000 --- normal is somewhere in the 200s) for several days. They have dropped to 900 by this morning. Since they've dropped so much, they are going to start her on clear liquids by mouth sometime today and see how she handles it.
They've stopped the IV nutrients and are up to 20 ml of breastmilk (about 4 tsp.) an hour with through the NJ tube.
Isn't that great??!? All of a sudden I'm starting to feel much better myself! Thank you all for praying; now you can all praise God with us for these answers to prayer.
There are still some concerns that we're praying about - Baby Gwen's potassium is still low and her blood pressure is still high. She is being medicated for the high blood pressure and they say she might still need to take that even when she comes home. - But let's pray about that, okay?
No one has mentioned a time to come home yet - in fact, two nights ago, they moved us to a private room because Baby Gwen was having trouble resting because of all the noise. (That itself was a direct answer to prayer. I noticed that Baby Gwen was bothered by the background noises of children crying, people visiting, TVs on, etc. but didn't think there was anything to do about it. It was a nice surprise when the nurse told me they were going to move us.)
Baby Gwen has been sitting up, playing, reading books. I took her for a wagon ride yesterday (you should have seen that - imagine a tired mommy pulling a wagon AND the IV tree. Yeah, people were moving out of the way. I was scaring myself!)
So that's how we've been. Again, thank you so much for praying for Baby Gwen and for us. And thank the Lord for the improvements we're seeing!
Mom Karen

07-28-10 (Quick Reversible Eyeglass Case!!)

from SewManyWays blog

Are you in need of a quick last minute gift? Or are you just tired of all the scraps that you don't have a new idea of what to do with them?

Well, let's try this. Sew all those wacky fabric scraps together at a diagonal with all different sized sizes of fabric strips and make one of these adorable reversible eyeglass cases. Only takes two 4" x 13 1/2" strips. Here are the step by step, picture by picture instructions how to from

SEW MANY WAYS Blog

http://sewmanyways.blogspot.com/search/label/eyeglass%20case%20tutorial

Have fun !!! You could also shorten this and make it a cell phone holder. If at one of the short end seams you placed a 5/8" wide piece of grossgrain ribbon that was 2" long & folded in 1/2. That would form a loop once it was done and you could put a clip through that to clip it to your purse.

Well,

I have all ready not kept my promise in keeping this up weekly, but I got busy with sewing projects, a couple of funerals (my high school art teacher & my Uncle Bill) & work.

Nothing really special just an ironing board cover for a friend's built in the wall one and mending. Learning to make fabric beads for an ASG demo I am helping with next month and just trying to stay cool at 111 each day.
Well I am off to work on & turn in my state of Califiornia sales tax and machine embroider on a couple of over due flannel baby blankets.

Have a great day!!

"Magical" Madiera Scalloped Hem Bonnet

Well I performed my MAGIC show at my local evening Neighborhood Group of American Sewing Guild (ASG) tonight demoing how to do this darling

MADIERA SCALLOPED HEM BONNET

with Silk Ribbon Roses

Next month ASG evening mtg, I am doing the demo on how to do the five spoke silk ribbon rose with 4 mm YLI silk ribbon that I purchase just up the road from http://www.piecemakers.com/ in Costa Mesa, CA. I learned how to do these spider 5 spoke roses off of Angela's Blog - Dandelion Avenue having seen this darling Easter Dress ensemble at http://dandelionavenue.blogspot.com/2010/03/sre-easter-dress-finished.html. This style of silk ribbon roses are Super easy and I make more professional looking ones, then I ever did my attempts at buillion roses!! The "MAGICAL" madiera scallop hem is a technique I learned from Dr. Martha Pullen. I watched, rewatched & rewatched her DVD and now I have it mastered. The trick is symetrical mirror design & MUST have YLI Wash Away Water Soluble Basting Thread. Madiera books, YLI Wash Away Water Soluble Basting thread & DVD are all available at http://store.marthapullen.com/.

Can hardly wait til Saturday when at the baby shower, my friend who becoming a first time Mom, opens this for her darling new little girl, due in Sep. I am sure she won't get duplicates of it. I am also crocheting a scalloped edge onto a pink star flannel blanket for her. I hope I get done in time!!!

If you need more info about our local monthly evening ASG group meetings, leave me a msg & I will send you details.

July Vacation Starts

Well I have OFFICIALLY started my 4th of July Holiday! I work 9 hour days for the Navy in finance, so I get every other Friday off, mine is this Friday -2nd of July. Monday is a Holiday & I took tommorrow off. So FIVE long days off work. Ok, so I started to celebrate a little early.
Today's update - Well my "great niece" got the red ruffled daiper britches in Reno & they fit & go darling with her red shirt with the United States on it - so they are calling her Little Miss USA!! They are sooo cute at 14 months. Yes, it is OFFICIAL, as of yesterday, her Mom is 20 weeks pregnant with A BOY!! Her husband is thrilled, and so is she. Ok, so now that means I have to find & learn how to sew with interlocking knits & snaps!! Foreign territory to me.
Also I delivered the star quilt last night to the grandma & she was thrilled, Grandpa was there & he got to see it to.
Ok, well you all have a Super & Safe 4th of July !!! We are currently only 106 degrees at 8 PM in SUNNY So Calif, where we are still rocking & rolling from the earthquakes that are centered just 17 miles from here - they are only 3-5s in size!!

Red letter day, well I finished the baby quilt for my friend for her First Grandson.

I just Love "FIRST TIME GRANDMA'S"

They buy everything you show them for the prospective baby. Well the reason for the Red & White & there are a few small Blue stars in the border, is for him to have this to go with his sailor suit & his sailor hat for his first 4th of July. His dad is in the Navy & currently on a 6 month deployment aboard a ship out of San Diego. Remember to pray fervantly for our military men and women serving in harm’s way and for their families.

So I finished this quilt over the weekend to deliver to the Grandma tommorrow.

Hope you had a great Monday !!
